AN EXPERIMENT IN ANTISOCIAL NETWORKING.

Friends, I'm afraid I've grown tired of you.

It's not entirely your fault. I inherited my share of the blame the moment I posted my first "status update" for all to see. You reciprocated, and we continued from that point going back and forth, posting the most utterly meaningless details of our daily lives on a moment-by-moment basis.

We can't continue this way. You shouldn't feel it necessary to tell every human being you've met since grade school that you're tired or hungry. I shouldn't feel compelled to respond. We have nothing to say to each other anymore. This is sad.

Conversation as we have known it is being robbed of its significance. It has been determined that anything you need to say can be done in 140 characters or less. It's only going to get worse, because apparently, you like it this way.

Well, I don't. I'm out. I want you to join me. I would like to engage in a correspondence with you that I feel will be meaningful, if you'll let me.

I've been hiding my art throughout this city for the past three years now. You've been gracious enough to humor me by hunting it down, finding it and contacting me when you do. I'd like you to humor me some more. There's a box. Think of it as sort of a mailbox, the kind you'd expect a guy like me to have. There are treasures in this box. Art, trinkets, letters to you. I want you to find the box. When you do, the things inside are yours to keep.

This differs slightly from the Art Hunt of the past few years, because this time I'm expecting something from you in return.

Under the box, let's call it "The Ghost Box", you'll find a hidden compartment. Think of it as my "inbox". I want you to correspond with me. Write me a letter. I'll write one back to you. Let's keep in touch this way. I know it sounds a little complicated for an exchange of letters, but this will add meaning to our conversation. You can tell me anything you want. All I ask is that it not be about the mundane details of your life, and that it exceeds 140 characters.

Send me an email. Write to csotys@yahoo.com and tell me you're willing to give this a try. Once I have your contact information, I'll be sending you clues.

The location of the Ghost Box will change periodically.

I look forward to communicating with you.
